The United States dropped to 55th place in the international ranking of covid-19 vaccines, according to data from Johns Hopkins University for vaccine monitoring. And while it is good that other countries have massively increased their efforts on vaccination in 2021, other nations are leaving the United States in the dust.

The United States has fully vaccinated only 59.44% of its total population against Covid-19, leaving them ranked 55th in the world. The United States used to be in 40th place September, i 18. u July. Other Western countries like Germany, which has a vocal anti-vaxer community, have also slipped. Germany returned with the 22nd best vaccination rate in the world July to 33rd place today.

Israel is another example of a country that started strongly in early 2021 but experienced a dramatic drop in vaccination against COVID-19. Israel was ranked 10th in the world with a vaccination rate of about 58% in July, but has since dropped to 44th with a vaccination rate of 63.55% today.

Meanwhile, some countries that started the covid-19 vaccination rate poorly in the first half of 2021 have surpassed the U.S. in recent months. Australia moved from a vaccination rate against Covid-19 of only 12.18% in mid-July to an incredible 70.32% today. And Japan, which only recently ranked 46th in the world September with approximately 50% vaccination rate climbed to 18th place with a vaccination rate of 74.91% today.

The list below shows the percentage of the population of each country that has been vaccinated, based on data from Johns Hopkins University. Note that the percentages apply to the entire population, not to the percentage of the population currently eligible for covid-19 vaccination based on local health guidelines.

Most countries around the world still do not vaccinate young children, which means that vaccination rates can be much higher in some of these countries if you include only people over the age of 12 or 16 and older, depending on the guidelines in that country. Cuba, for example, started vaccinating two-year-olds last month, while the U.S. has just started vaccinating children five and older. But countries like Spain and Italy currently only vaccinate children 12 and older.

The U.S. government is struggling to convince Americans that vaccination is the only way to end a pandemic, and Republicans have turned Covid-19 into a political issue. Only 9% of Democrats say they will probably or definitely not get kovid-19 the vaccine, while astonishing 38% of Republicans say the same thing, according to the latest poll Kaiser Family Foundation, which took place in mid-October.

The U.S. has an average of about 83,000 new cases a day and 1,113 deaths a day, according to the New York Times, with the vast majority of serious illnesses among those not vaccinated. While so-called breakthrough cases still occur among people vaccinated against covid-19, you are much less likely to become seriously ill or die if you have been vaccinated.

If you are an American who has not been vaccinated against covid-19, there are still many free vaccines at your local pharmacy. You can see the list of pharmacies at CDC website or simply enter the nearest one. It is almost certain that chances are waiting for you. It’s really easy and you won’t regret it. We promise.
